EBAM 2025

More than 150 participants from 18 different countries all over the world attended EBAM 2025, the 5th International Conference on Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing, which was held from February 26 to 28, 2025 in the Kreuz+Quer, Erlangen, Germany. The conference brought together leading experts, and senior and junior scientists from research and industry specialized in the field of electron beam-based additive manufacturing. This specialization encouraged excellent presentations and high-quality scientific discussions.

During ten sessions, the interdisciplinary exchange of views was encouraged by premium-quality keynote presentations (Book of Abstracts). A wide range of high-performance materials was focused: refractory metals, titanium alloys, titanium aluminides, steels, copper alloys or nickel-base superalloys. The presentations covered the whole process cycle from powder aspects to post-processing of the manufactured components. As a highlight, in-situ process monitoring using synchrotron radiography as well as new machines from different suppliers were presented. All sessions were enriched by presentations on numerical simulations promoting a better understanding of the physical effects during the process.

The scientific interchange was encouraged by a high quality poster session. During the session, each participant had the opportunity to vote for the “Best Poster Awards”. The winners of the poster awards are Mr William Sjöström (Mid Sweden University, Sweden), Ms Gloria Graf (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) and Mr Yong Chen (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany). The conference was enriched by an enjoyable conference dinner.

In addition, all presenters were invited to publish a journal publication within the special issue “Advanced Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing” in Progress in Additive Manufacturing (Springer).

The organizers received much positive feedback and many participants are looking forward to EBAM 2027, where we currently plan to stay at Kreuz+Quer again.
