More than 180 participants from 23 different countries all over the world attended EBAM 2020, the 3rd International Conference on Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing, which was held from October 5 to 7, 2020 as a virtual conference. These increasing number of participants and internationality from year 2016 to year 2020 reflect the ongoing interest in the field of additive manufacturing. In contrast to the previous editions, COVID’19 forced us to shift the conference from spring to autumn and to organize it as a virtual conference.
The conference brought together leading experts, and senior and junior scientists from research and industry specialized in the field of electron beam-based additive manufacturing. This specialization encouraged excellent pre-recorded presentations and high-quality scientific discussions in live sessions. The interdisciplinary exchange of views was encouraged by premium quality keynote presentations. A wide range of high-performance materials and the whole process cycle including in-situ process monitoring as well as numericla simulations were covered.
The scientific interchange was encouraged by high quality poster sessions with short pre-recorded poster descriptions. The winners of the corresponding poster awards are Ms. Alizee Thomas (University Grenoble Alpes, France), Mr. Robert Scherr (FAU, Germany) and Mr. William Sparling (University of British Columbia, Canada).
In addition, the speakers with the highest ranked presentations were invited to publish a journal publication within the special issue “Additive Manufacturing of Alloys using Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion” in Materials (MDPI, Impact Factor of 3.057).
The organizers received much positive feedback and many participants are looking forward to EBAM 2023, which hopefully can take place at the Kreuz+Quer, Erlangen, Germany.
